The Library Friends of Payson, Inc

MISSION:  The Library Friends of Payson, Inc., is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide financial and community support to the Payson Public Library. We believe that public libraries comprise an integral aspect of community identity and development, and we support endeavors that encourage literacy and free inquiry within the individual, the family, and society.

HISTORY:  Like many of Rim Country's finest service organizations, "The Library Friends" were established as a 'grassroots' effort to support the growing Payson Public Library.

We have evolved from just providing books -- to purchasing computers and other equipment & funding Public Library programs that would not otherwise be covered in its Town and County budget.

SERVICES WE PROVIDE: We offer a Free Library Services for Homebound Individuals - through our "Library Buddy Program." We also purchase books and supplies for Payson Public Library.

PROJECTS WE SPONSOR:  We are an Annual Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce Business  Showcase participant.

We maintain the LFOP bookstore (a used bookstore in the Payson Public Library). Staffing is done entirely by volunteers.

On February 15, the Library Friends of Payson are pleased to have dedicated library volunteer and storyteller Alice Natale entertain the community with African tales in honor of Black History Month.

Alice is a graduate of Storytellers Institute at South Mountain College.  Before moving to Payson, she was a docent at the Bowers Museum of Art in Santa Ana, CA, where she led tours and told stories in the Kids Museum.

The Library Friends of Payson presentation for the community, which is held in the library meeting room, will start with a short business meeting at 10:00 a.m.; the program begins at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to both the business meeting and the free one hour program. We extend a special invitation to middle school and high school students for this program.

The library will be closed on February 15, Presidents’ Day, but the meeting room will be open. There will be signs to direct visitors to the side door. If you have any questions, please call the library at 928-474-9260.

Library Friends of Payson, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, supports the library with programs and materials not covered by the town budget. COME  JOIN US.

A Taste of Rim Country

Save the Date for ‘A Taste of Rim Country’

Mark your 2016 calendar now for our annual fundraiser, ‘A Taste of Rim Country’, set for Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Payson Public Library. Guests can wander our stacks and sample appetizers and/or desserts from area restaurants, chefs, and caterers, and vote for their favorites.

Our organizing committee, chaired by Board Member Kathy Morgan, is already hard at work in the initial planning stages for this popular event.

We now have 11 chefs participating in our upcoming March 12 fundraiser:

The Randall House (last year's winner of the Best Savory entry), Sal & Teresa's Mexican Restaurant, the Chefs of Mazatzal Hotel & Casino, Gerardo's Firewood Cafe, Pine/Strawberry Senior Center & Meals of Wheels, Shelia's Creekside Steakhouse, Zane Grey Country Barbecue & Pizza, Payson Senior Center, Rim Country Health & Retirement, Cardo's Restaurant, and Kendra's Country Bakery.

We have some chefs who have been part of these events from the very beginning 15 years ago, and some are first-time participants. We can't wait to taste all their goodies!

Guests can participate in our complimentary wine-tasting table, 50-50 cash raffle, and silent auction of unique items of fine arts/crafts and more.

Fred Carpenter will serve once again as Deejay for the event.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 12, at the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road. Tickets are available now, by advance purchase only, at the Library at a cost of $35 each ($20 of which is tax-deductible as a charitable contribution). There will be no ticket sales at the door. We usually sell out, so get yours soon!

Library Friends BookStore

During the month of January the Library Friends of Payson Bookstore is featuring a storewide clearance sale. All items are being offered at two for the price of one.

This includes all books, hard cover as well as paperbacks, videos, puzzles and items in the 50 cent area. Shoppers can mix and match.

The second must be of equal or lesser value than the first item. It’s a great way to ensure that you have plenty of reading and viewing material for the cold winter months.

Bookstore stock is constantly changing, so stop by often. All Bookstore proceeds directly support the library.

The LFOP Bookstore is located to the right of the circulation desk just inside the Payson
Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road.
